Base Regulations
Traffic -- Idaho state traffic laws apply on Mountain Home AFB. Seat belts are mandatory. Car seats are required for children under 40 lbs and under the age of 4.
Motorcycles -- Helmets and reflective vests are required, along with a valid license and the required (expanded) safety training to operate a motorcycle on base.
Vehicle Checks -- All vehicles entering or leaving Mountain Home AFB are subject to search.
Speed Limit -- The speed limit on base is 25 mph unless otherwise posted.
ID Cards -- Military and Civilian ID cards are obtained through the Military Personnel Flight, Customer Service area. Bring your old ID card if needing a replacement. If you are newly married, you need a copy of the marriage certificate.
Cell phones -- Hand held cell phone use is strictly prohibited while driving. Use of cell phones with hands free capability can be used.
Driver's License
Idaho state will honor your home state driver's license as long as it remains valid and you remain on active duty. Idaho will also honor your dependents' home state driver's license, as long as it remains valid. If you become an Idaho resident, you must obtain an Idaho driver's license.
The driving age in Idaho is 15. Driver's manuals can be obtained at the Mountain Home police department or online at the Idaho Department of Transportation website.
Idaho Vehicle Registration
To register your vehicle, boat, motorcycle or RV in the state of Idaho you must visit the Motor Vehicle Department, next to the County courthouse in Mountain Home. If you purchased a new vehicle overseas and want to register it in the state, you will be charged Idaho state tax of 6%. Call the motor vehicle department for more details.
