Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, Virginia has proudly served the military and their families since 1830, making it the Navy’s oldest continuously operating hospital. Nationally acclaimed, this state of the art medical center with ten branch clinics offers premier research and teaching programs designed to prepare new doctors, nurses and hospital corpsmen for the future.  This patient driven TRICARE facility is entrusted with the health readiness of the United States armed forces.  Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, proudly serving those who serve us so well.

Located on historic Hospital Point, the main campus of Naval Medical Center Portsmouth (NMCP), is home to 5,000 men and women who live and work by the Navy’s core values of honor, courage and commitment.   Providing healthcare services to the brave men and women of all our armed forces, their dependants and retirees is a daunting task that can only be achieved by a staff committed to the ideals and expectations associated with the command’s hallmark of First and Finest.

Naval Medical Center Portsmouth is geographically located in the Southeastern corner of the Commonwealth of Virginia. The area collectively known as "Hampton Roads" and is commonly referred to as such by the residents of the area. Hampton Roads generally includes the cities of Newport News, Hampton, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, and Suffolk, and is populated by over 1.5 million people.  The region is homeport to the majority of the 186 ships, 1,300 aircraft and 118,000 Sailors and Marines assigned to the Atlantic Fleet. Naval Medical Center Portsmouth is one of many regional commands that constitute the largest military concentration in the world.

DIRECTIONS TO NAVAL MEDICAL CENTER, PORTSMOUTH

From I-64, Norfolk, Virginia Beach - Take I-64 East to I-264 West (Portsmouth, Downtown Norfolk) - Take I-264 West through the Downtown Tunnel: first exit after tunnel is marked “Naval Hospital” - Take the Naval Hospital exit which will put you on Crawford Parkway. Continue on Crawford Parkway through Downtown Portsmouth and along the water. At the Intersection of Crawford and Effingham Street, take a right on Effingham. - Effingham Street leads directly into the main gate of the Medical Center. TOLLS: There are now tolls on the Downtown tunnel I264 between Norfolk and Portsmouth as well as the Mid-Town connecting Norfolk and Portsmouth. EZ-Pass is available for purchase. www.ezpassva.com
